Forefront TMG 2010 Firewall Client Hotfix Rollup – October 2011

October 1, 2011

A hotfix rollup for the Forefront TMG 2010 firewall client is now available that resolves several issues reported on client systems with the TMG firewall client installed. They are:

KB2620156 – An active FTP data channel cannot be established for an internal computer that is running the Forefront TMG 2010 firewall client.

KB2438187 – You cannot start a program that is installed many levels deep and that requires an Internet connection using the Forefront TMG 2010 firewall client.

KB2620191 – Security update 2520426 causes a regression on a computer that is running the Forefront TMG 2010 firewall client.

KB2620153 – A program experiences a 20-second delay when an established internal or external connection is closed when the Forefront TMG 2010 firewall client is installed.

The Forefront TMG 2010 firewall client hotfix rollup can be downloaded here. After applying this hotfix rollup, the new Forefront TMG 2010 firewall client build number will be 7.0.7734.186.

Does this hotfix include the previous KB2520426 (TMG CLient) hotfix

Forefront TMG 2010 SP2 does not include the Forefront TMG firewall client hotfix rollup, so you will still need to install that update on any machine that has the firewall client installed. Good question, however. I made a point to reference that in my latest blog post about slipstreaming SP2 with Forefront TMG 2010. Thanks!

Thank You but i was refering to the latest TMG CLient Hotfix rollup in this post. Does that include or replace the previous TMG client Hotfix KB2520426?

I apologize. Yes, the fix described in MS11-041 (KB2520426) is included in the October 2011 Hotfix rollup. 🙂 As a general rule, hotfix rollups are cumulative so they’ll include any and all fixes and/or updates released previously.

Does this hotfix rollup require a reboot?

Is this hotfix applicable to both x86 and x64 platforms? The reason I ask is because when you click to download the hotfix rollup it only shows a download for the x64 platform.

Yes, this update for the Forefront TMG 2010 firewall client does require a system restart.

Yes, this update applies to both the 32-bit and 64-bit Forefront TMG 2010 firewall clients.

    Hi Richard,

Is it possible to slipstream the hotfix to the fw client. This should be possible because the firewall client is msi and the patch/hotfix is a .msp file.

Just wondering what kind of issue i will have if i do this?

    Thanks,

    Ash.

I’ve not tried slipstreaming this update to the Forefront TMG 2010 firewall client. However, as you suggest, it should be possible. Give it a try and if it works, reply again to this thread with the steps. 🙂

I tried slipstreaming this update using the msiexec /a Client.msi /p Patch.msp syntax, it looks like it works but the end result is a changed MSI file that doesn’t install the latest version. Anyone had any success in getting this patch into the MSI for easy deployment?

I’ve used this method countless time, and in fact recently updated my build ISO image with Forefront TMG 2010 SP2 Rollup 4 without issue. If you’re following my instructions exactly it should work fine. The only other thing I can think of is that perhaps it requires you to be running with administrative privileges?
