Forefront TMG 2010 Turns Two Years Old

Today marks the second anniversary of the release to manufacturing (RTM) for Microsoft Forefront Threat Management Gateway (TMG) 2010. In the two years since its release Microsoft has provided two major service packs that have increased stability, improved performance and scalability, and also added some helpful new functionality. During this time the product also achieved Common Criteria (level EAL4+) certification. As we approach the end of mainstream support for Microsoft ISA Server 2006 SP1, now is a good time to begin evaluating Forefront TMG 2010 and to start planning your migration!

What is the future of TMG 2010? Will they add IPv6 support? I thought MS said it will not be further developed. Is there going to be a replacement? I am hesitating to deploying TMG 2010 if there is no clear roadmap. Do you have any insights?
The future of Forefront TMG 2010 is uncertain at this point. Microsoft has not made any official statement regarding future releases, but keep in mind that it is still an excellent security solution and will be supported for ten full years after the latest service pack. With that, you can safely deploy Forefront TMG 2010 SP2 and know that you will be fully supported. If/when there is a next release of the product (and I’m optimistic there will be one in the future) I’m sure it will support IPv6.
10 yrs support after last SP is good, indeed -but does support mean also smaller security updates?
Like in case that someone founds vulnerability from the product that compromises it’s security?
Security updates will still be covered, without question. What you won’t see in extended support are non-security fixes that require significant investments in programming.
